According to preliminary reports, the package was discovered outside of Terminal 2 and 3 just before 2 a.m. local time on Thursday.
All roads into the airport reopened after a “law enforcement investigation” outside Terminals 2 and 3. NBC Miami reported the closures were due to a suspicious package.
The airport was evacuated and planes full of passengers were stuck on the tarmac, starting at about 4:30 a.m.
“Disruptions to airport operations may be possible and travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight status before coming to the airport,” FLL announced on Twitter.
