When scrolling through the list of most popular anime characters on MyAnimeList, the top 50 seem to be characters from older, classic anime such as Lelouch (who is currently ranked number one) from Code Geass, or other characters who have been around for a number of seasons.
It’s hard to find the best characters from any given season or year without a scroll through each and every one. In 2020, many popular shows came back with more seasons. Food Wars!, Haikyuu!!, and even Re: Zero came back to spread the love of some of the fan-favorite characters, while new series like Jujutsu Kaisen introduced even more lovable characters into the anime world.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Satoru Gojou Made A Good First Impression (9,487 Member Favorites)
Considering Jujutsu Kaisen is a new series, Satoru Gojou is already impressively high on the list. The show hasn’t even finished airing its first season, yet Gojou sits above countless other anime characters with way more screentime. Gojou has a member favorite ranking of 9,487 and sits at rank 172 out of all anime characters. That number is likely only to go up from here. He is definitely the most liked new character from 2020 and can easily be noted as a top favorite for many. It wouldn’t be any surprise if, by this time next year, Gojou is sitting within the top 50.
