Lauryn Hill became famous and acclaimed at the age of 21, she sold approximately 8 million copies with her only solo studio album The miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Soon after winning a Grammy Award she dropped out of the public eye, dissatisfied with the music industry and pressured by the fame.
In 2012, she pleaded guilty to tax evasion and served a 3-month sentence in prison. She owed approximately $1 million on income earned during her career. During his time in prison, she paid back her debt. She was also supposed to release a new album but we are still waiting.
