The Philippines is made up of 7,641 islands, but only about 2,000 are inhabited. Spain, Japan and the U.S. all colonized the Philippines at one point, and it played a critical role in World War II.
It ranks No. 17 for adventure, as it’s an excellent place for snorkeling with whale sharks, laying in the sun and riding around in Jeepneys. One thing’s for sure, Filipinos are some of the friendliest people in the world. What the Philippines lacks is well-distributed political power, receiving a 0.6 out of 100 — yikes!
