Arsenal – Benfica
Kieran Tierney further cemented his status as an Arsenal cult hero during their 3-2 win over Benfica in the Europa League.
Since joining the Gunners from Celtic in 2019, Tierney has impressed on and off the pitch, prompting fans to call for him to be made club captain.
After Diogo Goncalves and Rafa Silva gave Benfica a 2-1 lead, Tierney equalised with his third goal for the club.
During the closing stages of the game, Benfica striker Darwin Nunez won a very soft free-kick after being challenged by Tierney.
Microphones appeared to pick up the Scotland international berating Nunez: “You’re a fcking diving cnt man.”
But he had the last laugh as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a late winner to book Arsenal a place in the Europa League last-16.
The Scotland international has overcome injury problems to become one of Arsenal’s most important players since his £25m move from Celtic.
