Tantum Verde Expands in Georgia with New Mint-Flavored Lozenges Launch This Winter

Italian-origin throat and oral care brand Tantum Verde continues to strengthen its position in Georgia, earning widespread consumer trust and recognition across generations. 

Represented locally by Sitaco Georgia, the brand has become a staple in household medicine cabinets, reflecting its strong market presence and sustained consumer trust. As the company looks ahead, it is set to further expand access to care – this winter, a new form of Tantum Verde, mint-flavored lozenges, will be introduced, offering patients an even more convenient treatment option.

In this interview, Giorgi Chikovani, Director of Sitaco Georgia, discusses the brand’s success, its clinical advantages and the company’s strategic vision.

Q. In the nomination for “Inflammatory Diseases of the Throat and Mouth: Oral Spray in Otorhinolaryngology” Tantum Verde has been awarded the Golden Brand once again this year. What does this achievement mean for Tantum Verde and Sitaco Georgia?

A. Tantum Verde has won this nomination for the second consecutive year, which is a strong confirmation of its leadership. It is truly one of the best choices for treating inflammatory diseases of the throat and oral cavity. Today, this unique product is present in almost every family’s home pharmacy in Georgia.

Q. Tantum Verde has been on the market for decades. What do you think has driven such long-term trust both internationally and locally?

A. Tantum Verde is indeed a unique product, offering an optimal balance between efficacy and tolerability. It is also important to highlight the significant scientific and educational work carried out by our representative office over many years, which has played a key role in building trust among both healthcare professionals and patients.

Q. What differentiates Tantum Verde spray from other similar products in terms of mechanism of action and effectiveness?

A. Tantum Verde, a product of the well-known Italian company Angelini Pharma, is a locally acting medication designed to treat sore throat and inflammatory conditions of the oral cavity. It provides both rapid pain relief and anti-inflammatory effects simultaneously.

Importantly, it does not contain lidocaine, which is associated with a risk of laryngospasm. We can confidently say that Tantum Verde not only relieves symptoms but supports comprehensive disease management.

Currently, in Georgia, the product is available in two forms – spray and mouthwash solution – and by the end of the year, lozenges will also be introduced to the market.

Q. One of the key benefits highlighted is rapid pain relief. How important is this in managing throat inflammation and how does it impact patient comfort?

A. This is indeed a very important aspect. Anyone who has experienced a sore throat knows how distressing it can be – sometimes even swallowing saliva becomes painful. In such moments, the only thought is immediate relief.

Tantum Verde’s fast-acting analgesic effect is therefore extremely valuable. Moreover, recent studies show that pain relief can occur even faster, within just two–three minutes after use.

Q. The product is often described as suitable for the whole family. What makes Tantum Verde safe and reliable for both adults and children?

A. One of Tantum Verde’s key advantages is that it can be used across almost all age groups. Its active ingredient, benzydamine, does not enter systemic circulation, which minimizes the risk of systemic side effects.

Additionally, as mentioned earlier, it does not contain lidocaine, which further improves its safety profile. Unlike many other products on the market, the mouthwash solution does not cause discoloration of tooth enamel, which is another important benefit.

Q. As a leading pharmaceutical company, how does Sitaco Georgia select the brands it introduces to the Georgian market?

A. Our principle is clear – we only bring original, branded medications from European pharmaceutical companies. Equally important is that these products are backed by solid and credible clinical research. This ensures we maintain high standards of quality and trust.

Q. What are Sitaco Georgia’s future plans? Should we expect new products or portfolio expansion?

A. Absolutely. In recent years, we have already introduced several innovative products to the Georgian market. For example, we launched Lit-Control, a Spanish product designed for effective management of urolithiasis.

Another innovative product is BisilvAloe – an aerosol based on silver, zeolite and aloe, used for treating superficial wounds, ulcers, bedsores and burns.

As mentioned earlier, this winter we will also introduce a new form of Tantum Verde, mint-flavored lozenges, making the product even more accessible and convenient for patients.
