Good Friday is celebrated to commemorate the crucification of Jesus Christ. It is a day to remember that good will always wins over evil. Today also marks the start of the holy week, a week before Easter. Good Friday is also known as Great Friday, Easter Friday, Black Friday, or Holy Friday. On this day, Christians around the globe observe fast and visit the church. This occasion is one of the most significant days for the community.
Good Friday is a part of the Holy week which began on 29 March with Palm Sunday. It will come to an end with Easter on Sunday, 4 April. Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday or Pascha, is a day commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter commemorates Christ’s resurrection from the dead, the fundamental belief of Christianity. It is the earliest and most central of all Christian holidays, more ancient than Christmas.
Two parts of the contemporary Good Friday worship service could be misunderstood as implicitly anti-Semitic or racist. Both are derived from the medieval Good Friday liturgy that Catholics and some other Christian churches continue to use in a modified form today.
These are the solemn orations and the veneration of the cross.
Prayer and anti-Semitism
The solemn orations are formal prayers offered by the assembled local community for the wider church, for example, for the pope. These orations also include other prayers for members of different religions, and for other needs of the world.
One of these prayers is offered “for the Jewish people”.
When was Jesus born?
The birth of Jesus Christ is traditionally celebrated on December 25 – on Christmas.
A number of Oxthodox Christians celebrate his birth earlier in January, on the 7th.
It turns out that it’s pretty unlikely Jesus was born on December 25 – he was probably born in the spring or autumn.
In fact, no one knows the exact date of the birth, and the bible doesn’t specify a date.
The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25 was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine – the first Christian Roman Emperor.
A few years after that, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated then.
When did Jesus die?
Those who follow the Bible believe that Christ was crucified at Calvary on Good Friday.
According to the New Testament of the Bible, Easter occurs three days after the crucifixion of Jesus by the Romans.

Three days after Christ was nailed to the cross Mary Magdalene, followed by some of Jesus’ disciples, discovered Jesus’ body had disappeared from the tomb leaving just clothes behind.
The Bible says when the stone covering the entrance to the tomb was moved, Jesus’ corpse was nowhere to be found and onlookers discovered he had risen.
What happened to Jesus during Easter?
Easter is a Christian tradition that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and marks the end of Lent.
